awe! Certificate in Asset Management for Housing

This Certificate in Asset Management for Housing, developed in collaboration with experts in Asset Management within the housing sector, provides an applied understanding of the principles and language of asset management set within the context of the housing sector. 

The course builds knowledge of core asset management topics and how these relate to the challenges seen within the housing sector. It is interactive, intuitive, and leads learners on a progressive journey from the general principles of asset management through to practical applied examples of how asset management makes a positive difference to their role. 

The course is made up of 20 interactive modules, each taking 45-90 minutes to complete, and by the end of the course, learners will have a practical understanding of: 

  • The core principles of asset management  
  • The role of an AM Policy, Strategy & the Strategic Asset Management Plan 
  • How asset management drives Policy, Strategy and Planning in the Housing Sector 
  • Approaches to asset planning and the development of an AM Plan 
  • The requirements for a robust approach to Risk Management and how this is applied within Housing organisations 
  • The breadth of asset lifecycle activities and how to manage each stage within a Housing environment 
  • The role of Information Management for asset management and what is key for Housing organisations 
  • The financial impacts of asset management and drivers for making the business case for investment within Housing organisations

Following successful completion of the course, learners will feel confident enough to take the Institute of Asset Management’s Certificate Exam and will have gained the competence to apply this new knowledge within their own role. The course is endorsed by the IAM and CPD certified.

awe! Diploma in Asset Management for Housing

Studying our Diploma in Asset Management for Housing allows learners to develop a greater understanding of the value your assets could deliver over their lifecycle, and how meeting their needs throughout this period must align with your organisation’s strategic goals and comply with regulation. Furthermore, it will support your ability to meet the challenge of Warm Homes and successfully gain the funding for that. 

The hybrid programme is an engaging blend of self-study eLearning with facilitated live discussion sessions to embed and apply the learning in practice. Learners will understand the application of good asset management directly into the Housing Sector, and how taking a longer-term strategic approach not only assures future value but also breaks down silos and builds an open culture across the organisation, with better cross-discipline decision-making. 

Studying or already holding our Asset Management Certificate for Housing ensures learners have a good proportion of the basic knowledge that is recommended before enrolling on the Diploma. Alternatively, having over 5 years of broad, good-practice asset management experience will be good preparation. 

The programme is aligned to both the IAM Diploma qualifications and professional registration requirements and is CPD Certified. 

The programme follows a flow of weekly learning activities, each taking 2-4 hours and typically running over 10 weeks (though this can be extended if required). The activities alternate between self-study eLearning to gain knowledge and face-to-face discussion workshops to apply and embed that knowledge.

By the end of the course, learners will have an applied understanding of how to:

  • Apply ISO 55000 asset management principles within your role to create sustainable value from physical assets 
  • Ensure asset management policies, objectives and plans are aligned with organisational strategy and stakeholder needs 
  • Make risk-based, whole-life decisions on asset acquisition, operation, maintenance, renewal and disposal 
  • Balance cost, risk, performance and opportunity to optimise asset value and business outcomes in your decision-making 
  • Develop robust risk-based asset management business cases which justify investment and expenditure decisions over the lifecycle of the assets 
  • Use asset information, data and knowledge effectively to support your evidence-based decision making 
  • Manage asset management systems, suppliers and stakeholders to deliver long-term performance and resilience, and 
  • Actively lead asset management improvement, organisational change and capability development programmes.
